A Challenging Project
Pre-Project Reflection
I am very excited about this project. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to find something relevant to both my career path and the Edge class so I was happy when my mentor suggested shadowing someone in my career field. One thing I look forward to is seeing the inner workings of various fields within accounting. Seeing what accounting looks like in various real world settings will really help me understand what my future career will look like. By putting myself in these situations I will be able to tell which circumstances will allow me to enjoy accounting the most and which ones are not a good fit. Hopefully, by doing this, I can pursue internships or other opportunities that are more specific to areas of accounting that I know I want to end up in.
I do have a few concerns leading up to this project. First, I only have one accountant secured to shadow. If all else fails, he has said I can complete all 40 hours at his firm but this will limit my exposure to the other fields which I really look forward to experiencing. Secondly, in securing other accountants to shadow, I must approaching individuals that I may not know on a very personal level and present my project and case in a professional manner to solicit their assistance. Lastly, my biggest fear is that after my project is over I will not have learned which career path in accounting I can see myself in.
Overall, I am optimistic about this experience. Getting to know other people and hear about their experiences in the accounting world will be invaluable to my journey and help me see the light at the end of the tunnel. It will be very useful to have realistic expectations and experiences to go along with the accounting classes I have already taken and prepare me for future classes.
