Larger Purpose

Shadowing various accountants will help me establish contacts with potential employers and help me determine which path to pursue within the accounting realm.

Project Goal

My goal is to get real, practical experience in the accounting field and see first hand what being an accountant in different areas entails.

Outcomes

Upon improving my knowledge of accounting in various real-life settings, I can broaden my perspective and stand out to future employers. Also, I can be more certain of which path within accounting to pursue since I will have first-hand experience in several areas. This will give me increased confidence and a realistic view for the future. Even though I will ultimately only be able to follow one path, my experience with the other areas of accounting will help me be more well-rounded and knowledgeable. Upon completion of this project, it is also possible that job opportunities or internships could present themselves through the contacts and relationships that are made and developed.

Deliverable

For my deliverable I plan on keeping a journal to track my hours and also write a summary of my feelings and experiences with each accountant. I will also record each accountant’s thoughts on why they prefer the area they are practicing in. This will allow me to compare each experience to determine the right path for me. If able, I will take pictures of myself with the accountants that I work with.

Differentiation

This project will make me stand out as an accounting major because it will show that I have experience in several areas of accounting instead of just one.
